Goal of the course:

  • To produce competent, efficient and dedicated teachers for health professional institutes

Objectives of the course:
Completion of this diploma course will develop knowledge, skills and attitude of the teachers of health professional institutes to--

      • teach students effectively
      • facilitate effective learning of their students
      • develop quality instructional materials
      • use instructional materials competently
      • develop quality assessment  tools
      • assess the students properly
      • contribute in developing and updating their curricula
      • conduct research
      • do publication
      • perform as a competent  educational manager
      • engage in activities of faculty development issues
      • contribute in academic and quality improvement activities in their institutes
      • update themselves continuously
      • act as positive role model for the students

General Rules

 

Ordinances

1.

Diploma in Health Professions  Education (DHPEd) shall be of two academic semesters. Course will commence in July each year.

Admission and duration of the course

 

2.

Candidates will be selected for the course strictly on the basis of merit in Admission test, which shall consist of written and oral Examinations where applicable.

Government candidates will be on deputation.

Private & foreign candidates may also apply for admission in the Course if they are eligible under clause 2 (eligibility for admission).

3.1

Academic
A candidate for admission to this course shall be required to produce a graduation certificate of MBBS/BDS and must have postgraduate degree. The Candidate having teaching experiences will be given preference.
Or BSc in nursing/Bachelor in medical technology/ Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS)/ Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)/ Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS)/ Bachelor in Pharmacy degree from any govt. recognized University of Bangladesh and should have postgraduate degree or at least three years teaching experiences.  
Or any other equivalent degree recognized by concerned licensing organization in line with above mentioned additional criteria.

 

 

3.2

Experience

 

 

 

The Candidate having scientific publications in recognized journals  will be given preference.

 

 

4.1

Examination for the degree of the Diploma in Health Professions  Education (DHPEd)  Course shall be held in January and July every year or at such time as BSMMU may determine

4.2

Examinations will be conducted by examiners having the BM&DC recognized degree on health professions education/medical education & not below the rank of Associate professor duly appointed by the Controller of Examinations as per the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Faculty of Basic Science & Para Clinical Science, BSMMU.

 

 

5.

A candidate shall be required to undergo a course of 2 (Two) academic semesters i.e 12 (twelve) months after enrollment.
The course for the degree of DHPEd shall consist of two parts

  • Part-I  6 (Six) months of academic course.
  • Part-II 6 (Six) months of academic course.

Course Organization

 

5.1

Part-I Course.
Part-I Course is six months study in Basic Teaching & Learning,  Basic Instructional Materials Development and Basic Assessment & Evaluation. Students have to attend lectures, tutorials, seminars, contact learning, session and will also be involved in corporate learning, institutional self directed learning. Students have to complete their assignments and presentations in time.

 

 

5.2

 

 

 

The Part I Examination
Part I examination shall be held at the end of 6(six) months of enrollment into part I Course.
The examination shall consist of

  • Written
  • Oral
  • Formative (Presentation and Assignment)

5.3

  • A candidate shall be eligible for Part I examination who has undergone a course of study for six months as laid down in the syllabus for the course without any interruption.

 

  •  Has produced the following certificates duly signed by the course    

     Director and  head of the institute:

  • of good character
  • of having attendance at least 75% (seventy five) percent each of the theoretical and practical classes as prescribed in the syllabus for the course.
  • of having completed all the requisite assignments & presentation and has obtained at least 60% marks in formative assessments.

5.4

 

Conduction of Examination
i)     The examination shall be conducted by a Board consisting of two        examiners having the BM&DC recognized degree on health        professions education/medical education for each papers & not        below       the rank of Associate professor. One internal and one        external; duly appointed by the Controller of Examinations as per        the            recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Basic        Science & Para     Clinical Science, BSMMU.
ii)    They will also conduct Oral and review formative examination        documents. One of those two examiners shall evaluate written        scripts.
iii)   There will be 4(four) paper setters and Two moderators for each        paper

6.

i)     Pass Marks is 60%
ii)    A candidate shall have to pass separately in written, and in oral & in
Formative component

7.

i)     A candidate who fails in Part I examination may re-appear at the         subsequent examinations on payment of usual fees without pursuing         the            course again. Marks obtained in formative will be adjusted with     marks of written and oral of re-examination.
ii)    Candidates who has passed in one or more papers of part I         examinations shall not be required to re-appear in the paper/s passed         while appearing in subsequent examinations

DHPEd Part II Course

 

 

 

i)     DHPEd Part II course is of six months duration.
ii)    A candidate shall be eligible for enrollment in Part II course after        passing any two papers of Part I  Examination.
iii)   Course will consists of six months study in Basic Curriculum        development, Basic Educational Management, Basic Research        Methodology & Biostatistics. The students have to attend lecture        and tutorial classes, seminars and discussions. They will also     submit        assignments as is laid down in the syllabus.

The Part II Examination

 

 

8.1.

i)    Shall be held after one year of enrollment in DHPEd Course
ii)   The examination shall consists of –
a)  Written
b) Oral
c)  Formative (assignment & presentation)

8.2.

A candidate will be eligible for Part II examination who:
i)    has previously passed at least two papers of the Part -1 examination
ii)   has undergone a course of study for six months without any       interruption after enrollment into Part II course
iii)  has produced the following certificates duly signed by the course       director and head of the institute.

  • of good character
  • of having attendance of at least 75 (seventy five) percent of lectures, presentation, discussions and seminars.
  • of having completed all the assignments & presentation of part II course obtaining 60% or more marks.

8.7

A candidate must pass part I and II examinations within three years of enrolment into the course

 

 
 

 

9.1

Each successful candidate shall be granted DHPEd degree if he/she successfully passes in all the examination of Part I & Part II examinations.

 

 
 

 

9.2

If a successful candidate secures 85% or more of the marks in aggregate of the University examination he/she shall be declared to have passed with honors in the subject of examination provided that it is regular examination.
